Most researchers find statistics difficult as it involves a lot of mathematical calculations. The use of computers and statistical packages has simplified the way calculations were done in the past. Though, it is important to understand data, decide which analysis to undertake and understand and interpret the findings of the statistical analysis, the software packages save a great deal of time and efforts on generating the statistics required for interpretation. SPSS is one such software package with an immense capability to handle large datasets and undertake complex analysis. The programme aims at equipping the students with a hands on SPSS, over and above giving statistical foundations required for the course.


  • To provide students with the hands-on experiance to work with SPSS.
  • To give them the understanding of multivariate statistics and methodology required to understand analytical tools and interpretation of results.
  • To encourage the students for a career in statistical analysis using SPSS.

Candidates who have passed the Certificate Course in SPSS, Post Graduate Diploma in Research Methodology, Master's degree in social sciences, Master's degree in Commerce with Statistics or MSc (Statistics) will be eligible for the admission to this certificate course. The departmental committee will admit the students on the basis of merit. The students of the Department, postgraduate students and faculty will be given preference in admission. Reservation as per the University rules will be applicale. The department may consider other candidates who are actively engaged in research and have some background in doing statistical analysis.

Duration of course
Duration of course is 3 Months (or 40 sessions of one and half hour) with total 60 contact hours. Department provides course in two different batches:

  • Time: 4:30 pm- 6:30 pm from Monday to Wednesday (Department will have discretion to change timing)

Minimum required strength of students in each batch is 10. Hoever, the department will have the discertion to change this minimum required number of students.
