DHRD organized a One-Day Workshop on “Legal Compliance” for the Last Semester students on 30th January 2016.

VNSGU celebrated its 43rd Youth Festival on 9, 10 and 11 January 2016. Around 25 students of the Department of Human Resource Development took part in the Youth Festival. DHRD team won 2nd Prize in One act Play named “The Invisible Collection”. The students of DHRD also won awards for the Best Actor Male, Best Actor Female, Best Direction and Best Script. DHRD students got appreciation for Mono-Acting and won 2nd Prize in Short Story Writing. The List of Winners are as follows:

On 12th January, We celebrated the Birth Anniversary of a Great National Figure, Swami Vivekananda.
There were many activities suggested for the Event. We decided to screen Two Documentaries on the Life of Swami Vivekananda. Inspired from these Documentaries, one student named Yayati Desai, conducted an Impromptu Session with 40 students on how to improve the Quality of Our Own Life. It was an amazing and joyful experience as everyone within 1 minute tried to identify the precious gifts that they received in this Life.
After the Lunch, students gathered again for an Essay Writing Competition and wrote on one of the 4 topics mentioned below:

Department of Human Resource Development and Patanjali Yog Samiti-Surat jointly organized Yoga programme from January 4 to 11, 2016 under the guidance of renowned yoga teacher Shri Jivanbhai P Patel.Students and faculty members of the department, Faculties and employees from different departments of the university actively participated in the programme.
Department faculty Ms Neha Raval participated in “7th International conference on Quality, Reliability, Infocom Technology and Business operations” organized by University of Delhi during 28-30 December, 2015. Experts from different countries like Sweden, USA, Oman, Russia, Canada delivered talks in the conference. Around 200 participants from different parts of the world participated in the conference. Ms Neha presented her paper on “Understanding 1.5 sigma shift: back to the basics of Six Sigma”.
Dr Smruti Bulsari attended a workshop on Data Analytics, Business Intelligence and Big Data organized by CHARUSAT University, Changa on October 30-31, 2015. Experts from Origin Lab, Bangalore gave hands-on experience on using the software “Origin Lab”.
Dr Kiran Pandya chaired the session on “Empowerment of Women: Issues and Trends” in the National Seminar on Understanding Women Empowerment organized jointly by Department of Sociology, RC 10 (Gender Studies), Indian Sociological Society and Centre for Women Studies, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat during October 27-28, 2015.
Dr Kiran Pandya attended the National HRD Network Meet organized at J B Chemicals (Unique Pharmacheuticals), Panoli. A discussion on forthcoming revisions in Labour Laws and the role of HR in implementation took place.
A workshop on Cloud Computing was organized by the Department of HRD on October 17, 2015. Cloud Computing is one of the latest developments in the area of computer engineering, which is based on resource pooling for efficient utilization of storage space and memory usage. It is important for people from all spheres of academia to understand the concept and technology of cloud computing because it is cost-effective and secure. Big data analysis / predictive analytics / business analytics are the buzzwords in the field of computer science as well as social sciences. Cloud serves as one of the major sources of data for big data analysis / predictive analytics / business analytics.
The basic aim of this workshop was to introduce the participants with the technology and the softwares used for cloud computing. Prof Amit Ganatra, Professor and Head Computer Engineering Department, CHARUSAT University, Changa gave theoretical foundations of cloud computing. Mr Amit Nayak, Assistant Professor, IT Department, CHARUSAT University, Changa gave a hands-on exposure to the softwares required for cloud computing.
Students of Integrated HRD programme of the Department, students from Master Degree Programmes of the Department, faculty members of affiliated colleges as well as other institutes from South Gujarat as well as from Mumbai participated in this workshop. The participants got a good exposure to theoretical concepts as well as to implementational aspects of cloud computing. Dr Smruti Bulsari was the workshop conveynor.
Dr Kiran Pandya chaired a session in the National Seminar on Economic Development Across Sectors: Understanding Development Discourses, organized by the M K Bhavnagar University during October 8-10, 2015. Dr Pandya shared his views as one of the panel members in the Panel Discussion on Issues in Higher Education.
A workshop on Research Methodology was organized on October 5, 2015 by the Department for students of Semester – I of all Master Degree Courses. The basic objective of the workshop was to create awareness among students about different approaches to research. The workshop also focused on giving information about different sampling techniques, questionnaire design, writing a research proposal and research report. Introduction to statistical analysis required for analyzing data was also discussed in the workshop. Dr Kiran Pandya, Dr Smruti Bulsari, Dr Madhusudan Raj and Ms Neha Raval shared their expertise on different areas of research methodology.
Dr Kiran Pandya delivered his expert talk on Socioeconomic Development of Gujarat: Problems and Prospects in the UGC Sponsored One-Day State Level Seminar organized by Shri J S Bhakta & Shri K M Bhakta Arts; Shri A N Shah anScience and Shri N F Shah Commerce College, Kholwad – Navagam, Surat on October 1, 2015.
A Game Show "Bindaas Puchh, Mane Badhu Aavde"of Akashwani Surat FM 101.1 MHz was conducted in the Department today. Mr Sumit Davda from Surat FM hosted the show and the students of Semester - I of our Master Degree programmes: MHRD, MLW and MA (HRM&LR) participated. The students as well as the host of the show - Mr Sumit were very happy at the end of the show. Students' performance was very good. Congratulations and best wishes to all students.
One-Day Workshop on Principles of Management was conducted on September 26, 2015 for the Semester - I students of MHRD, MLW and MA (HRM&LR). Faculties from different institutes served as resource persons. The Department thanks Dr Prashant Joshi, Dr Hemlata Agarwal, Dr Janki Mistry and Mr Krunal Patel for sharing their expertise with students. Dr Smruti Bulsari was the convener of the workshop and Dr Kiran Pandya presented his concluding remarks on the workshop. Students found this workshop to be useful and informative.
A Special lecture on Effect of Climate Change in Surat was held today (September 4, 2015) at 10:30 AM at the Department of HRD, VNSGU, Surat. This was organized to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Year of the University. Dr Chandra Sekhar Bahinipati from GIDR, Ahmedabad delivered this special lecture. The lecture was very insightful and interactive. Students of the Department, Faculty members and heads of Departments attended this session.
A seminar on Emotional Management was organized jointly by The Department and National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Surat Chapter on July 11, 2015. Mr P D Modh shared his expertise on emotional management. He talked about different biological functions of brain and related it with the psychological outcomes. Mr Modh explained how biological functions of brain causes stress and how some people are able to manage stress well and why others find it difficult to manage. He discussed how to train the mind to handle difficult and stress-causing situations. Mr P D Modh is Management Consultant and Practicing Cost Accountant in Ahmedabad.
HR professionals from various industries of Hazira belt and nearby regions of Surat attended this seminar. Students of the Department also attended this seminar. Industry professionals and students of the Department constituted around 70 participants.
Dr Kiran Pandya, Head of the Department gave a brief and interesting overview on importance of this seminar. Ms Minasree Saika anchored the entire programme. Dr D G Thakore proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Smruti Bulsari was convener of this seminar.
Mr J K Nair, Secretary, NIPM, gave the welcome address and Mr Rajesh Shah, Chairman also spoke about the seminar. Captain Anil Kumar Singh was the Chief Guest for the seminar and he gave the inaugural address.
A one-day workshop on Introduction to Data Analytics was scheduled on April 3, 2015 at the Department. The workshop focused on introducing the concepts of Data Mining and techniques of data analytics. Data analytics is an emerging field in the area of statistics and has wide range applications right from management, HR, marketing, finance, economics and other social sciences. Data analytics is known by different names like predictive analytics, big data analysis, HR analytics etc.
Analysis of data is a process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modelling data with an objective of discovering more / new information that is otherwise not explicitly available. Data analytics is known by different names in different branches of knowledge – business, science, social sciences etc. It is known as data mining, business data analytics, big data analysis and a few more.
Data mining is a data analysis technique that deals with modelling and knowledge discovery for predictive purposes. Data analytics is used to describe everything from online analytical processing (OLAP) to CRM analytics in call centers. Banks and credit cards companies analyze withdrawal and spending patterns to prevent fraud or identity theft. E-commerce companies examine web traffic or navigation patterns to study the consumer preferences.
Modern data analytics often use information dashboards supported by real-time data streams. This is known as real-time analytics and it involves dynamic analysis and reporting, based on data entered into a system just few seconds before it is used. There is a huge demand of big data analysts in academics, corporate houses and big businesses.
Dr Amit Ganatra, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science, CHARUSAT, Changa served as resource person and gave exposure to plethora of softwares like Weka, Sipina Research, Excel Miner, Orange etc over and above providing the theoretical foundations for data mining and data analytics. Dr Apurva Desai, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat gave the inaugural address on data mining.
Participants from various disciplines and from institutes across Gujarat attended this workshop. They found this workshop to be very insightful. They felt that they got an exposure to a completely new area of knowledge. They found the hands-on exposure to different softwares very useful.
A Faculty Development Programme (FDP) in Economics was organized in the Department during March 21-23, 2015. This was the fourth consecutive FDP in Economics in the series of five FDPs to be organized every year. The earlier three FDPs focused on Policy Analysis, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics respectively. This FDP focused on the applications of various micro and macro-economic theories to day-to-day situations faced by businesses and social sectors.
This FDPs are organized with the support of Gujarat Economic Association Silver Jubilee Trust. Prof I G Patel, the founder of this trust had a vision to develop the subject in the area of Gujarat. These FDPs strive towards the vision of Prof I G Patel by giving rigorous training to teachers in different areas of economics. Experts from different parts of the country come and train the teachers of economics.
In this FDP, Prof PranabMukhopadyay from Goa University delivered discourses on Game theory, Prof Gagan Bihari Sahu from Centre for Social Studies discussed issues pertaining to Joint Liability Lending and Repayment Performance;andSHG-Led Microfinance Performance and Women Empowerment, linking it very logically to economic theories. Dr Amrita Ghatak and Dr Chandra ShekharBahinipati from Gujarat Institute of Development Research (GIDR), Ahmedabad discussed the applications of economic theories to health and environmental issues respectively. Prof ArchanaDholakia from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad explained the applications of Indifference Curves in fiscal policies. Prof T R Bishnoi from M S University of Baroda discussed the applications of economic theories to Banking Sector. Prof N M Pandya, Reitred Professor of M S University of Baroda and Managing Trustee, Gujarat Economic Association Silver Jubilee Trust gave discourses on Liquidity Preference theory and on IMF and its evolution. Prof Kiran Pandya, Head, Department of HRD, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat discussed the intricacies of Quantity Theory of Money.
Prof NilkanthRath, Prof VikasChitre and experts from IGIDR, Mumbai University and other leading institutes of India gave their valuable inputs the first three FDPs.

Department of Human Resource Development organized one day workshop on Biostatistics on 28th February,2015.
Around 40 participants from different fields like medicine, physiotherapy, biotechnology and bioinformatics actively participate in the workshop.
Dr Gaurang Rami from department of Economics, VNSGU, Dr Prshant Joshi from Uka Tarsadia University, Dr Smruti Bulsari and Neha Raval from Department of Human Resource Development,VNSGU share their knowledge on different topics like Introduction to data analysis, statistical inference, sample size determination, correlation and regression, designing measurement instrument and testing its reliability,validity and survival analysis.
All the participants found the workshop very informative and useful.
Department of Human Resource Development organized a six days powerful ‘Faculty Development Programme’ from 23 – 28 February 2015. It was one of the unique experiences for students as well as teachers. The topics were covered were outstanding in terms of latest trends in Human resource management and leadership development. Department of HRD is willing play an active role in providing human resource experts with in-depth knowledge about Human Resource Managment with excellent leadership skill and knowledge of industrial relations.
Around 28 students and 15 teachers took part in this wonderful learning experience.

Following faculties were invited and delivered lectures on various topics.
Mr. Ojas Bhatt explained Learning and development & HR audit with refreshing activities and real-life examples of his career. Mr. Ojas bhatt is known for his brilliant style of training.
Mr. G Balchandran gave wonderful insights on few of the most demanded topics in Human resource management sectors such as, leadership skill development, change management, performance management and conflict management. His teaching style is so interesting and he has the wonderful ability to convert and educate complex topics into easy way. His unique sense of humour and wisdom was appealing to participants.
Mr. Nandak Pandya has shared his expert knowledge in the field of Industrial relations. He is one of the few in the field of training and development who can explain the complicated topic of industrial relations so easily. He knows how to deliver training creatively.
Mr. Nitish Gandhi, who is the manager IR at L & T, also shared his experience working as a IR manager. What else can be better when an experienced like him is sharing his wealth of knowledge from his own career.
Feedback was more than excellent and there was a tremendous request to organize such programs in the future.
Department of Human Resource Development organized one day workshop on Statistical Quality Control and Improvement on 7th February, 2015.
Executives from corporates like Sahahjanad Medical Technology, Gujarat Gas Company Ltd took active part in workshop. In addition, faculties and research scholars from different departments like management, education, economics etc. and few students of MHRD programme also participated in the workshop. All the participants found the workshop very informative and useful and they suggested that more of such workshops be organized.
Department of Human Resource Development organized Sports Day on 5th February, 2015. Students and Faculty members actively participate in different sports like Cricket, Volly Ball, Carrom and Chess, Basketball, 100mtr race and table tennis.
Mr.Rishi Pathania Head-CSR United Phospherous Limited (UPL) had delivered a guest lecture on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on January 30, 2015.
All the Students of MHRD/MLW Sem - 2 and Sem - 4 participated actively in this lecture.
The Department of Human Resource Development, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, and The Center for Civil Society, New Delhi jointly organized a 3 day seminar on Austrian Economics between 23rd to 25th January, 2015. Total 34 enthusiastic students, teachers and people from the finance world participated in this seminar. During these three intensive days of studies, Andrew Humphries (Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Guatemala), Parth Shah and Kumar Anand (Center for Civil Society, New Delhi) and Madhusudan Raj (Department of Human Resource Development, VNSGU. Surat) gave lectures on, Praxeology: Ludwig von Mises and the Science of Human Action, The Subjective Theory of Value, The Socialist Calculation debate, Failures of Protectionism, the Life and Work of Indian classical liberal economist B R. Shenoy, Keynesian vs. the Austrian Business Cycle Theory, Competition: Perfect & Real, and the Evolution of Money and Free Banking.

A workshop on R for Beginners was organized by the Department on November 15, 2014. R is an important software for statistical analysis.
R is comprehensive. It is modular and light weight. It consumes very less resources of the computer. R supports a large number of extensions as well as data structures. Data from SPSS, SAS, Excel, Gretl etc. can be imported in to R. One can work with vectors, scalars and matrices with R. Theoretical and numeric mathematical computations are possible, over and above, statistical analysis in R.
